What makes Planet Cake so special?
Planet Cake employs only the most experienced, talented and unique decorators to provide a product and a service, unparalleled anywhere else in the country. Taking inspiration from homeware and stationery trends to high fashion and popular culture, Planet Cake is continually developing unusual and cutting edge designs.

When should I book my cake?
To avoid disappointment, Planet Cake suggests providing 6-12 weeks notice for wedding cakes and 3-6 weeks for corporate, birthday and other occasion cakes. During off-peak season (May – August) 2-3 weeks is adequate notice, and in exceptional cases, cakes may be turned around within the week.

How do I order a cake?

To start the order process, please send an email to orders@planetcake.com.au containing all the following information:

    ·         the date of your event
    ·         the occasion/nature of your event (wedding, birthday, christening, etc)
.         the event location, delivery address, and delivery time
    ·         how many people you will need to serve
    ·         your daytime phone number
    ·         your email address
    ·         an idea of what kind of cake design you are looking for

We will contact you to discuss your order and/or schedule an appointment.

Our shop is open by appointment only; we do not have any cakes pre-made for sale.
Every cake we make is custom made to order from start to finish.

How do I design a birthday cake?
Important things to consider when designing a birthday cake include the individual, their personal traits and hobbies, occasion theme, venue and time of year. It can also be useful to bring references such as photographs or invitations along to your consultation.

How do we design a wedding cake?
Because Planet Cake’s couture wedding cakes are designed specifically for you, to reflect the style and theme of your wedding, it is important to have decided on the theme/ambience and location of your wedding before arranging a consultation. Sometimes your ‘dream cake’ can be completely unsuited to the style, size or lighting of your particular venue. Style elements to consider before your appointment include cake shape (round or square), number of tiers, colour, pattern and/or flowers. If taking design inspiration from your dress, invitation, flower, fabric etc, remember to provide a reference at the time of your consultation.

What if I have a budget?
Concealing your budget can lead to miscommunication and cakes which are designed without financial constraint, wasting everyone’s time, namely yours! Being honest from the outset allows Planet Cake to include as many of your desired elements in the design without compromising your budget. If you have decided on a fairly conservative cake budget, discuss a DIY flower option with your designer, a great alternative to attempting to recreate a cheaper version of a more extravagant cake.

How much will I pay for a Planet Cake couture cake?
Because our cakes are completely custom made, and priced individually by the complexity of their design, we do not have a standard price list.

Wedding and tiered cakes start at $650. We find that most of our clients choose designs that start at about $1,000. There is a 50 serving minimum on wedding and tiered cakes.

3D, sculptural cakes start at $1,000.

We are happy to work within your event budget and encourage you to contact us for a design/tasting appointment so that we can discuss your cake order in person. We feel meeting with someone face-to-face and getting to know their ideas is the best way to plan a spectacular cake!

    What's your payment policy?
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your order; the remainder is due at least two weeks prior to your event. Your order is not confirmed until we have received your signed contract and 50% non-refundable deposit.

Payment can be made by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), cash, cheque or credit card (Visa or Mastercard). Cake orders placed with less than two weeks' notice require payment in full by credit card at the time of ordering. Deposits are non-refundable.

If you cancel your order, your balance payment is refundable minus an administration fee of $100, provided Planet Cake is notified at least five (5) business days prior to the event. There is no payment refund on orders cancelled within five (5) business days of the event.

Event dates are held for you through the date of your appointment or quote, and five (5) business days afterwards.  If we do not receive a signed contract and 50% deposit within five (5) business days of your appointment or quote, your date may become unavailable.

Design/Tasting appointments are held for most, but not all, cake orders. There is a non-refundable $100 deposit required for appointments, payable by credit card. The $100 deposit will be deducted from the final cost of your cake.

Which factors will influence the cost of my cake?
Cake costings are based on the artistic labour involved as well as the design, number of serves required and degree of difficulty.

    Are there any hidden charges?
Cake prices do not include delivery. Delivery within the Sydney Metro area starts from $77. Sunday deliveries are available upon request and attract additional charges depending on location.

What is the difference between a coffee and a dessert portion?
A dessert portion is roughly 25 x 50 x 90 mm, double the size of a coffee portion. If your wedding includes a three-course meal, coffee portions are usually ample. If serving the cake as a course on its own, dessert portions are advised.

Can I keep the top tier?
Selecting fruit cake for the top tier of your wedding cake means it can be stored, frozen, wrapped in cling film inside an airtight container for up to twelve months. Due to the additional weight of fruit cake, please note, that not all designs lend themselves to a heavy top tier. Sugar flowers and figurines need to be removed and kept away from sunlight and moisture.

I have dietary restrictions. Can you help?
Unfortunately due to the nature of our novelty work we are unable to satisfy gluten free and dairy free requests.  We are also unable to guarantee that our cakes do not have nuts, eggs etc and as a result do not handle customers with allergy requests.

For wheat and gluten-free cakes, contact Simmone Logue at http://www.simmonelogue.com/

Planet Cake is not a certified kosher establishment

    Do you sell couture cupcakes?
Couture cupcakes start from $9 each and make a modern and fashionable alternative to traditional birthday and wedding cakes. Minimum order of 25 cupcakes, does not include stand. Hand-made cupcake stands or boxing and bowing are also available for an additional charge.

    Do you deliver?
Delivery is available for wedding cakes and cakes that require on-site assembly. We cannot guarantee that any particular staff member will deliver your cake.

We do not ship our cakes.  Delivery fees are calculated by distance travelled and are roughly $175 an hour. Our delivery range is roughly 2 hours from Sydney.

Longer deliveries are occasionally arranged, but must be determined on a case-by-case basis.  Any delivery that totals more than 10 travel hours will also be subject to an additional fee to cover food/lodging for our staff.

While it is generally not a problem for clients to transport smaller cakes, self-transporting any cake is at your own risk. Planet Cake Cakes does not recommend clients self-transport 3D/sculptural cakes, cakes over 3 tiers tall, or any cake more than 5 hours and is not responsible for any damage that may occur to any client-transported cake once it has left our Shop.

    Do you ship your cakes?
We do not ship our cakes.

    Can I visit your shop?
Unfortunately, we don't offer tours or have the resources to handle visitors here. We are a very small, very busy business. Every cake we make is handcrafted to order, and while that makes for some really spectacular cakes, it doesn't leave us with time for visitors. So we can't have people stopping in to watch. If you show up anyway, we will not be able to let you come inside. We don't want to let you down and we don't want to feel terrible and turn you away. We are truly very sorry to be so strict, but there are no exceptions to this policy.

We do not give tours of our facility to groups.

We do not sell our merchandise at our shop. Merchandise is
available for purchase online via credit card - COMING SOON

    Are you hiring?
We are not currently hiring any staff, interns or volunteers.

I have a question about cake decorating / my school project / starting a cake decorating business / culinary school / my life's purpose.
We wish we could answer every question in detail. However, due to the incredible number of emails we get, that’s simply not possible and we can’t answer questions about these topics.
