Never before in Australia has a Couture Cake shop like Planet Cake taught cake decorating. Planet Cake is one of the best Cake Decorators in the world and as such is in an expert position to reveal the secrets behind some of the most fashionable cake designs on the market. Cake Decorating in Australia has traditionally been taught by TAFE, the Cake Decorators Guild and small cake decorating schools, these organizations still provide solid grounding in cake decorating fundamentals. However we opened our school in response to the demand from the general public to learn the art of modern cake decorating. Students will learn contemporary designs and updated cake decorating techniques with Artists that create cakes for celebrities and VIP’s for a living!
To register for a course, please check our online classes schedule to see whether there is availability for the workshop you desire. You can then either register online or call or email us to reserve space. Full payment is required upfront to secure your place in a class. If you have a gift voucher please contact our office directly.
Once you have registered for a class, you have purchased your place in the workshop and there are no refunds for any reason.
We often get asked why we structure our workshops according to subject matter rather than skill development, the answer is that we do both. By dividing our workshops into different cake genres you not only learn new skills but you walk away with a Planet Cake design that is relevant to your family and friends and thereby maintains your interest. Each workshop covers the majority of essential techniques and tools required in cake decorating with the exception of specialty decorations such as figurines and flowers.
Our courses are aimed at beginners and experienced cake decorators alike. Planet Cake is one of the premier cake shops in the world and as such has something to teach everyone, we have had students from all over Australia and Asia attend and have welcomed many people from the ‘trade’ please feel free to call us if you would like further advice about which course is suitable for your skill set.
We have over 15 courses in the curriculum that cover different decorating techniques; however all of our courses (except flowers & figurines) cover the following at different skill levels:
Planet Cake Decorators as well as guest appearances from some of the best Cake Decorators in the industry. All of our staff possess a minimum of 10 years experience, have a trade certificate as well as an art qualification and keep abreast of current fashion trends. Each instructor has been carefully assessed to determine their worthiness to carry the Planet Cake brand. Continual feedback is given via feedback forms at the end of each class and by the owners of the business.
Yes - We do group bookings for both hands-on courses and demonstrations. You can either book into one of our existing courses or design your own course and learning outcomes. We can tailor-make any course to suit your requirements. Please enquire at info@planetcake.com.au
At this stage we do not offer courses for children under the age of 16 years old, however we hope to schedule some workshops for children next year.
We do not run specific cookery courses for the trade, but you are welcome to attend any course. In fact, a lot of the attendees are aspiring or existing professionals.
In order to maintain a high quality of experiential learning all our workshops are ‘hands on’ and we provide all the materials and equipment required to create your cake or project.
Comfortable shoes (for example sneakers or rubber soled shoes), and attire that you will not mind too much if some stray Ganache decorates you! We do provide aprons…..
Your class sizes will also be kept relatively small between 10-12 students looked after by a Planet Cake teacher and facilitator.
No - Planet Cake provides everything for your workshop including the cake, we focus on cake decorating rather than baking, however we are happy to provide some tips and advice during the workshop on recommended baking recipes and techniques.
We are unable to provide a 24 hour telephone helpline, however we are able to answer technical questions and offer free advice via our online forum.
Absolutely not! We tailor the classes accordingly and aim them at separate skill levels. However, all people would learn from every class, so do not be afraid to challenge yourself! You will be amazed at what a beginner can achieve under excellent instruction.
If you have no decorating experience then any of our courses designed for beginners would be appropriate. If you want a sample of what cake decorating is all about and something fun to do as a group the Childrens cupcake workshop is a fantastic experience and has great feedback. If you are fairly keen and feel that you would like to build your skill set then you can start with Basics 101 and build upon the skills learnt with Basics 102 & 103.
Madhatter, Advanced Childrens & Flowers can be difficult. It really depends on the individual’s skill set and aptitude.
Private classes are available on all workshops shown. If you would like a different combination of subjects than presently being offered; that can be arraigned. For fees associated with a course selection and time availability please call us at 02 98103843.
